I'm sorry, I do not know exactly where this should go, so I will ask it here. This may contain some minor spoilers.

I am curious about the actual sizes of Edmond's field when the story started, and then how big it grew to become after all the Trolloc attacks and new people coming to it over the mountains and such. I remember a wall being raised and the village expanded a lot. What would it look like before and after? I have a very hard time picturing village/city sizes, so if anyone has any visual references, that would be fantastic. Thanks!

Dominic at the 13th Depository made a very detailed study of Emond's Field and drew an amazing map (click on it to open in new frame, it's really large!) of the state before the trolloc attacks.
Here's the link.
One topic he carefully skirts around is population size - with no reliable information, one can only make a reasonable guess about it. One might assume that there are 500 - 800 people living in E F, with 1500 - 2400 on outlying farms belonging to the village. With something like 300 - 500 refugees coming in (and most of them settling in or near the village), this would have a big impact.
However, this is highly speculative - one might put the number of persons killed in the trolloc attacks at about 100, about 200 men left with Perrin in LoC, about 200 men more joined Perrin's forces in KoD, about 40 went to the Black Tower, leaving enough people for everyday work. It's hard to guess how many stayed behind.

Fascinating stuff, and those seem fairly believable numbers.

That is a lovely map. The one I made in my head looked pretty similar to that.

Thanks for the detailed reply and the map! When he wrote about the town growing, I definitely pictured much more than 300-500 refugees, considering it was enough to bother Elayne, but as you said, speculative, and I am not good at population count stuff.
