It still doesn't seem right to me for some reason, not everyone has to end up with someone. Although it is nice Moiraine being happy and not just married to her quest!

I liked the Morgase/Tallanvor get together though!

Alviarin doesn't have anyone, and she's one of my favourite characters! :look: same goes for Cadsuane.
Alviarin is the Great Lord's nun

It would be nice to see a few characters not get to be happy ever after, if simply to make it a tad more realistic from an interpersonal perspective, but you can't really crowd that many Ta'veren together without expecting a few statistically unlikely things happening.

I have no issue with Thom/Moraine as a couple except insofar as they spend so much time early on implying a serious relationship between Thom and Morgase. I suppose he can have had several loves of his life, but is the theory that this whole relationship developed just between Eye of the World, and Moraine falling through the door Ter'angreal? I don't especially remember the implication that they'd met previous to their meeting in the Two Rivers.

I'm not sure about when the relationship began, but I have just finished TDR and it Thom says he has only ever really loved twice, once was Morgase and the other some other name I forget, but he didn't say Moiraine. But then he could have been covering as he was talking to Mat at the time.

I don't recall that implication. Moiraine does call him "Master Bard" in TEotW chapter 4 and later says it was a little arrogant of him to keep the name after he fled Caemlyn, so I think she new who he was, but I think that is all

Their relationship has been foreshadowed for a long time now. I knew they were going to end up together as early back as the Shadow Rising, when we get this quote.

“Have you ever been in love, Moiraine?”
What a startling question. Elayne could not imagine the Aes Sedai in love. Moiraine was Blue Ajah, and
it was said Blue sisters gave all their passions to causes.
The slender woman was not at all taken aback. For a long moment she looked levelly at the pair of them,
each with an arm around the other. Finally she said, “I could wager I know the face of the man I will marry
better than either of you knows that of your future husband.”

She had been spending a lot of time with Thom, playing stones and having long conversations deep into the night.

Many people believe that one of Egwene's dreams was a direct hint.

"Mat throwing dice with blood streaming down his face, the wide brim of his hat pulled down low so she could not see his wound while Thom Merrilin put his hand into a fire to draw out the small blue stone that now dangled on Moiraine's forehead"

I think this is more an allusion to Thom saving her from the Tower of Ghenji and burning his hands to take her out of the white cloud/mist.

Finally we have a POV from Thom while looking at Moiraine.

"Now there was a beautiful woman, with every grace a man could want, including laughing at his quips. Fool! Old fool! She’s Aes Sedai, and you’re too tired to think straight.."

His line about her being Aes Sedai has more to do with his son/nephew (I can't remember which one) being taken and gentled.

oh! i totally forgot about this dream! wow, just another way RJ throws us a clue to the future. i remeber first reading this and thinking nothing of it, but after the tower, it makes perfect sense :)

Yes. This exactly. I said The Dragon Reborn, but you're right it was The Shadow Rising. And this is exactly what I was thinking of. Thank you. There are even conversations between Moiraine and Thom during the time they were in Tear. It was pretty obvious to me then.

Plus Morraine has not only been through the rings for her testing for accepted but also Rhuidean and the door way in Tear, she could have seen Thoms face at any time.

Don't know why but I wasn't surprised at all. :look: I can't particularly remember revealing their relationship while reading TDR or SR, so I guess I read it somewhere in the net as a theory and decided that it was probable to happen. I can't say I love the scene, but in my opinion it didn't look forced, or not more forced than the first love scene of Lan and Nyneave which for me came out of the blue. :look:

Something was off about it compared to the rest of his couple scenes.

Couldn`t agree more, exactly how I feel! :([/quote:3o6ffoj1]

Agree x2 Also didnt Thom have a bit of a fling with his apprentice before she died? Whats up with that?

i honestly saw this coming.
But, i do kinda feel like it was a little bit rushed or forced... he could have elongated that chapter a bit and made it better

^ This.
Its my major complaint of this book, it all seemed rather abrupt. Oh well.

COuple wise, what I got a HUGE bang out of was Lan's frustration/love with Nynaeve over him raising the Golden Crane or not. I just loved his reactions to when Malkieri and others kept joining him no matter what he said. :P

Eh, I was ok with it being a bit abrupt. There's still plenty of time that could potentially be filled in before the gateway pops up and they can go hang out with Perrin. Also, this was from Mat's POV, and he's not the type of guy to hang around and watch while they get all mushy and stuff, hence him going off and finding that pot.

I think Moiraine/Thom is one of the couples that could actually be ok with knowing ye old end of world is coming, and put that first to deal with.

I couldn't agree more. I felt blind sighted when I first read this. But...when I started thinking about it, I was able to pick out the clues.
