Copy and Pasting Text

I've noticed that if I copy and paste something from the forums into my text box, it ends up with a whole bunch of code attached when I post it. I then have to edit the post to remove all the code.

Am I doing something wrong?

I've seen other people have the same issue. I'm almost positive it's browser related - do you have the option to try another or is the one you're on your only choice?

Mychael, I can try another browser. I believe I have FireFox on this computer and probably IE. I'll make a post from there in a minute.

Huh...Doesn't do it in FireFox. Must just be a Chrome thing. I'm pretty sure it's picking up the slight gray color of the background, but it's super annoying if I'm trying to copy and paste. :grumble

It could be a plugin you have on Chrome that is the culprit - you could, if you want to use Chrome, disable your plugins then activate them one by one. Once you find the point where it does it to you, you've got your trouble-maker. (Try clearing your cache before doing this just to keep things clean.)

When I hit reply with quote i get all the code suurounding the quote in my reply box but it doesnt show up on the main conversation board after I hit post quick reply...I figured it was just computer code for "put this bit in a speach bubble"

Yep! That's ^ what the QUOTE tags do. Technically you can use them without all the stuff that follows the =, and you can even replace things to make it say whatever you want, like such:

This may be a good opportunity to ask another question, since quoting Mychael is a perfect example - can't quoting include the quotes that are already there? I know it happens in PMs, so I'm not sure if it's different with posts, or if I'm just doing something wrong. :scratch

That's one I've never figured out...

I looked through settings again today but didn't see anything. It removes quotes within quoted posts for me as well.

You can do it, but you have to do some copy/pasting. When you hit reply with quote, it takes out anything already quoted in the post you're quoting, so if you want to quote within a quote, you have to manually reinsert it and wrap it in quote tags.

Not sure why it doesn't just preserve quoted material down to 5 levels or some such, but that would be a question for Mendo

I use Chrome and had this problem, but it doesn't always happen.. (the problem originally listed in the thread). I hated having to clean it out... and yes it is my only option as I DO NOT USE IE.

In Chrome if you press Ctrl+Shift+V instead of just Ctrl+V to paste it removes any code or funkiness for you. :8)
