Character Limits

Hello!

I am not sure that I'm here to exactly ask anything, but only to be enlightened.

Considering I am in the Welcoming Committee now, I went to people's profiles to leave them little posts of welcome and introduction. However, I've found that the character limit of 420 characters is... ludicrous, to be honest. It might be my problem that I can't express myself and relay information concisely in under 420 characters, but... I just have a feeling that I:
a) can't inform them clearly enough;
b) can't make short sound like anything other than uninterested and borderline dismissive.

I guess I'm wondering why the limit is so low, and if there is even a possibility of reconsideration about the number.

These limits aren't configurable without an extension (or maybe a DB edit). There's a module that would let us do it, and I need to eval that vs just making the change manually in code or DB.

Update: it's in the code, not the database, so code edit every time we update or extension are the only two options. I'll code eval the extension soon
