Hey everyone! Before we get any further into the "OHEMGEEHAIRONFIRESOMEONEHASBOARDADMINSTATUS" meltdowns I've been hearing about, I wanted to give a brief tutorial in permissions on phpbb3!
There are four different roles in phpbb3:
What does this mean? It means that the permissions structure for phpbb3 is very convoluted and can be messed up in a hundred different tiny ways. :P This means, however, that we are able to give people access to the ACP and let them help us administrate the boards and NOT give them access to all of our forums as global moderators. This is a huge difference between phpbb3 and phpbb2 - on our old boards, if you were a board administrator, you were also a global moderator, meaning you could see into all forums.
Right now, we have some of our Department of Technology staff as administrators. They're helping us out with mods, adding people into usergroups, and those kinds of administrative tasks. This does not allow them to see into all forums; it only allows them to be used for our grunt work. There's a lot of it.
The global moderators we have are the Amyrlin, myself, Director of Membership (Serenla), Director of Moderators (Vivianna), and Director of Technology (Zhareen).
If you have any questions, the User Guide to phpbb3 is a good place to start!

- User Roles - These roles define things like whether or not you're able to use PMs, avatars, signatures, and other board-wide privileges.[/*:m:2w6r6et8]
- Forum Roles - These roles handle what permissions people have to post, including polls, stickies, and editing their own posts. [/*:m:2w6r6et8]
- Moderator Roles - These handle what a moderator can do in which forums.[/*:m:2w6r6et8]
- Admin roles - These handle what people can do in the Administrator Control Panel (also known as the ACP).[/*:m:2w6r6et8]
