First off, it's terrific that the Glitter Free Week is happening and I'm happy for the reason it is happening.

However, myself and some other site members are having a really difficult time with the glitter animations as they are trying to trigger at best migraines and at worst epilepsy with us. I did have this conversation in Discord chat and with some other people--but for those not on Discord we're wondering if there is a quick way to hide the animations so we can still enjoy the commotion and fun of Free Week without the health issues getting the best of us or without us having to avoid the site all week.

Thanks in advance! We really appreciate this. :)

Hey Narysse. I'm sorry, I should have realized this could be a real issue. I even said "epilepsy warning" in my avatar request thread, but I treated it as a joke. That was wrong, and I feel awful about it :(

I have changed my avatar to the subtle version I made -- do you think this version is fine? If so, I will re-create the harsh avatars I made with this style, and send a message to everyone who has them asking them to change it.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to make this right.

Is this yellow version okay or does it need to be slowed down? I'm not really sure what the threshold is...

Hey Anu would you be able to knock up a quick glitter theme to be applied to the fairground only and then we can all go low key with avs?

To provide an immediate solution, I have created a theme for the Stylus browser extension that you can enable to hide all avatars on these forums. Don't use the Stylish plugin, as they were caught stealing user data, but the Stylus plugin can be safely used with Stylish themes.

Download the extension here:
Chrome
Firefox

Then install this theme to hide the avatars:
https://userstyles.org/styles/162764/hide-tar-valon-avatars

@Alora Sionn Because of the way this forum software is coded, I cannot target a specific forum with CSS, so unfortunately I can't do that. Hopefully what I've created above will be sufficient.

edit:

Later, when the free-week is over, you can click the Stylus button in your browser, and un-check the "Hide Tar Valon Avatars" theme to see avatars again.

Additionally, I have also previously created a dark theme for the whole site that could help with migraine issues: https://userstyles.org/styles/153647/darkfriend

Could you change mine to something subtle as well, but make it to where you can see the colors?

I give you permission to darken my avatar, if need be.

Anu, it's not your fault, this happened with the last Glitter Week too. Pink sparklies everywhere made for an interesting week! I'm not mad at anyone, just trying to help out with a real issue that unfortunately doesn't give us a lot of warning if it's going to be an issue.

Our bodies just haven't decided to evolve with the century. :p

I'll do that Leala. I need to go to my doctor appointment soon, and it's really important that I don't miss it, but I will send people more subtle avatars ASAP once I get home.

Until then, people with the harsh Lisa Frank avatars: PLEASE DO NOT POST IN THIS THREAD -- I don't want people with migraine or epilepsy issues to come in and have to leave without this helpful information, because of the avatars :(

Anu, you are amazing. Has anyone told you that lately?

:bow

The subtle avatars are playing loads nicer with at least two of us affected by the harsh ones.:hug

@Elania al'Manir, yours seems ok with me but the way this works it's a bit like colorblindness--what works for some people might not work for others, and there are varying levels of what's ok. I'm glad there's an option to hide the avatars for those who are affected more severely so that everyone can enjoy the fun. :)

Bleeeegh, I can’t believe the one day in a month I have the time and cell service to get on the site, everyone’s gif-y glittery. :x thanks for the plug-in, Anu!

Disclaimer: I don’t have migraines or epilepsy, I just hate looking at them.
