I saw a Tweet that led to Rafe's Instagram. If you can guess what's going on, you can enter to win dinner with Rafe in Prague.

Apparently it's not something from the books, so Rafe was 100% sure no one would get it and so it wasn't a genuine offer. Which is a bit disappointing. Though one person was nearly right apparently. And he may do an official competition at some point in future.

He also hasn't said which guess was almost right, which is just annoying!

Oooh, fun!
Since it's Egwene and Perrin, I think it's when they're running from Whitecloaks after getting separated from the others.

I hear crows, I mean I can hear people, but it totally sounded like birds the first play - less as I play it more than once

ETA ok just read the additional comments. Nevermind me

I'm hoping their choice of audio clip was intentional to mean they're dropping an actual trailer soon.

Rafe Judkins just did a Q&A on Instagram centered on adaptation changes.

Here's a link to the whole things: Link.

Here's my favorite two answers he gave in the whole thing, one hilarious and one pertinent as the show gets nearer.

Q: How far through the series did you consider when making changes (in terms of repercussions)?

A: We have to consider it for the entire series. Which has led to many in-room conversations/screaming matches where someone is like, "The Yellow sister Healing someone in this scene CANNOT be Chesmal Emry. Do you know anything about Chesmal Emry? Are you kidding me? What did you just google a random Yellow sister name and pick one you liked? Fuck you and your Yellow sister, it's not going to be fucking Chesmal Emry, I guarantee you that."

Q: Have you made changes that hurt you/Sarah to make, but were necessary for the screen?

A: The writer's room floor is littered with my tears. Truly though, I don't want people to be unprepared for how different the show is to the books. To do a proper adaptation, it has to be. As a thought exercise, just imagine we can only do four of the cities from EotW. So from Emond's Field, Taren Ferry, Baerlon, Shadar Logoth, Whitebridge, Four Kings, Breen's Spring, Caemlyn, Fal Dara, which do you choose? What are the knock-on effects for character and story from the ones you don't go to? Which characters haven't met each other now and how do you reconnect them? We have amazing writers and hugely helpful support in Brandon and Harriet to tackle these changes, but they're not small. Gird your loins, my friends.

Just spotted an article today that they've already picked the show up for a second season...before the first season has started airing...looks like maybe they believe that they have something good

That is very exciting about the second season! Are they trying to cover one book per season?

The showrunner, Rafe Judkins, has been saying not to expect a 1-1 book/season pattern. He said they're writing the show as an adaptation of the full series, with that idea in mind.

I've heard that they may not be using fancloth for the Warders cloaks due to money issues.
I wonder if they've considered using Predator technology to achieve the effect.
The invisibility cloaking effect was achieved with a bright red suit (because it was the farthest opposite of the green of the jungle and the blue of the sky) the size of the Predator. The red was removed with chroma key techniques, leaving an empty area. The take was then repeated without the actors using a 30% wider lens on the camera. When the two takes were combined optically, the jungle from the second take filled in the empty area. Because the second take was filmed with a wider lens, a vague outline of the alien could be seen with the background scenery bending around its shape./SPOILER]
Not sure how much the special effects cost for this but it shouldn't be too expensive with today's technology

Is anyone else in some of the Facebook groups for the show? I think I'm in all of the big ones, and I have no idea why I've been hanging out there instead of here (except, obviously, laziness). I just read y'all's reactions to the teasers and thank goddess you're willing to take Rafe et al. in good faith.

I'm not in the show Facebook groups, but I'm willing to go with it and trust Rafe & Co, given how they are handling the project. The Shannara Chronicles and Legend of the Seeker had somewhat (?) similar set-ups and they each gave us at least one 'entertaining' season. I think we will get at least one with WoT, but really hoping we can get the rest!

I think the Shannara Chronicles dedicated too far from the books to really resonate with viewers.
WoT's changes should be simply considered either another turning of the Wheel or taking place in one of the minor worlds so that the changes are just one of the many variations of the pattern

I hang out here about it because most other groups I've been in that have brought this up immediately complain about literally everything and won't give anyone a chance before seeing it. It's really tiring.

That's what I've noticed in the Reddit forum, too. Lots of complaining before the show has even come out, and it gets tiresome after awhile.
