Welcome to the TarValon.Net TV Show discussion forum! We know that a lot of you joining us here may be new members, and you're probably excited to jump right in -- however, regardless of how long you've been a member, please take a couple of minutes to read through these rules and post a response that confirms you will adhere to them. It's not long, but it's important.

We're so excited to have you here!

Posting

Our Code of Conduct can be found at this link, and I will bring two points to your attention from it:
  • Harassment and deliberate attempts to create a hostile environment will not be tolerated.
  • All Community Members shall be expected to behave with civility and tolerance at all times when dealing with other Community Members, non-members, and the world at large.
In short: treat others as you would like to be treated. We understand that you may not be thrilled about the TV adaptation, and that some people are skeptical about the abilities of people to follow through on a series that we all love, and that's okay. However, a lot of people are excited about this, so read the thread and get a vibe for how people are going about things, and if you disagree, please be respectful in how you do so.

Moderation

We have some amazing mods for this forum, as well as a number of other admins keeping an eye out. If a mod reaches out to you about behaviour that has gone against our rules, please follow their instructions. They may ask you to edit your post, give a warning about your behaviour, etc.

If you do not agree with them, or have any questions or concerns about the moderating procedure, please email me at moderators@tarvalon.net.

Reporting & ignoring

If you see someone who is breaking the rules, please do not get involved. We have moderators who will respond to the issue as quickly as possible. Second, in cases of a particular breed of rule-breaking: do not feed the trolls. Responding to offensive, upsetting, or otherwise inappropriate posts only serves to egg a troll on.

So, what should you do if you see someone breaking the rules, or see someone whom you think may be a troll?

Step 1: Report!
We cannot help resolve issues if we don't know about the problem. Therefore, the first thing to do when you see an offending post is to report it. Every post has a report button at its end that looks like this:
Report%20Function.png

When you report, a post immediately goes up in the Department of Mods & Ops detailing who reported it, what the comment was, and the content of the original post. I have an email notification set so that I see these posts immediately, and I check them as soon as I can.

In general, moderators do not comment publicly on reports or threads unless absolutely necessary. We are working on being more transparent in our moderation for those who reported; please also do follow up if you think that a situation has not gotten resolved accordingly.

You can also email me at moderators@tarvalon.net if you do not feel comfortable reporting on the boards for whatever reason. If you don't feel comfortable coming to me, please email keeper@tarvalon.net.

Step 2: Ignore!
If you really can't stand what a person is posting, you have the option to ignore them. This will hide all of their posts from you. This is a great option for trolls. To ignore someone, follow the steps below:

1. Click your name in the top right-hand corner of the page.

2. Click the "People You Ignore" button in the drop-down that comes up.

3. Type in the person's full name into the page that pops up.

Please do not ignore any mods or admins on the site. This is against the rules. Moderators are are denoted by the "Forum Moderator" written in the box under their avatar/board title. Admins include Heads of Ajah, other Membership admins (e.g., Mayor, Master of Accepted and Soldiers, etc.), Directors, etc.

Spoilers

At this time, spoilers are fine unless otherwise indicated. Once the show begins, we expect an influx of members who are watching for the first time without having read the books; at this point, we'll introduce spoiler tags for threads and ask that people use them.

You can also put spoiler tags in a post by wrapping some or all of your post in a spoiler tag:

Code:
[spoiler]Text of spoiler goes here.[/spoiler]
When in doubt about whether something constitutes a spoiler or not, opt for caution. Remember how amazing it was the first time you read about
how Snape killed Moiraine
or when
Darth Vader turned out to be Rand's real father
and you had no idea it was coming!
Read, and understood!
