I too had been thinking they would have the girls be together, I was thinking Elayne and Avi because they spend the most time together without Rand. But I had forgotten the sister ceremony, I doubt they'll cut that. Well, we shall see, maybe it'll simply be implied that they could have their own relationships :cheeseeni:

I think they're going for a TV-14 feeling based on one of Rafe's tweets, so maybe some making out and partial nudity, but also not GoT full-on stuff.

In a way I see that, because that's how it's written also, but I also think there's so much dark content, there's a lot of room to take it in a more adult direction and I'm a little disappointed if they've chosen not to. I also don't know how they're going to do things like Tylin and Mat in a TV-14 way. That's a straight up rape scene.

WORD. I remember completely not even noticing that scene being a problem when I first read the series as a teenager. As an adult who is more aware of consent, I was deeply annoyed at how that relationship was handled.

So add that to my wish list for changes: inject some friggin' consent into that situation. Mat can be bashful without being unwilling.

Just popping in to say that if they cut Aviendha, I am of the mind to poorly edit her in there myself.

They cannot take my favorite character away from meeeeee!!

Agreed
:ha
She is my favorite one out of the three for me.
I feel like for the blood that is going to spilled during the story they may shy away for the sex scenes but still be heavy on combat. So it should still be up there in MA, but because of the violence and not the sex.

Or at least treat it like what it is. Not funny.

I already made my suggestion for the mat and tylin thing. As far as the 3 go, I'm actually really ambivalent about how they do it, though I would have a small problem if they turned it into 2 monogamous pairings as it would kill Aviendha's character

For the romantic relationships, this is how I hope to see it. I feel Min is so devoted to Rand she almost seems Monogamous to me, with friendly relationships with her metamours. I do think Elayne and Avi should be in love, it makes sense and wouldn't be a huge jump from their relationship how it is already(and I want to see them bang). I'd also like to see Elayne bedding Guybon! She already considers him for a third warder and she's obviously attracted to him. That would all make it more consensual nonmonogamy to me, although I'm almost done with my reread at the moment and I an not getting Rand's harem vibe at all, it's already poly, they can just highlight that a little.

Needless to say, cutting any of the women would be detrimental to the show and Rand, imo. I am also looking forward to see positive representation of non traditional relationships.

As for Gawyn... ugh. I would be just fine with our Amyrlin not having a love interest at all. Isn't it totally ok for a woman to choose her career, ie The Tower over romance? If they don't skip it, I hope he learns to obey her as he should. OR she could bond Galad. He's way better.

The idea of expanding/morphing Rand and the 3 is so good, I love their whole dynamic and it is one of my favorite storylines overall. As far as other relationships ....
I really don't like or understand the Thom/Moiraine thing. I like Thom settling into his Elayne's Papa role, rather than embarking on a new romance. I think it is out of character for them both, tbh

A few things I've been thinking about a lot today: the show has the opportunity to improve so much on the dating/courtship phases of the relationships-- with so many of the partnerships it comes out of left field or there's basically no build up. Once the relationship is established it's great, but until then it's so meh. Not just Moiraine and Thom (which they've already improved on, Alexandre Willaume is a tall drink of water and only 6 years older than Rosamund), but even Nynaeve and Lan are pretty surprising.

Another is that I've hoped on and off for a few years that maybe Tor could do an "abridged" version of the Wheel of Time-- one that cuts out all the "last time on" elements, all the sprinkled-in reminders of what Min's powers are etc etc. I have never personally experienced The Slog, but there are times where I've thought "ugh I know this already." I think that's one of the things I'm most excited about for the show-- it's an abridged version. I'll get to enjoy this story and these characters I love over and over again because 8 seasons will be so much easier to get through than 15 books.

Lastly is I think the show will adapt to some cultural shifts. There's a few moments where Mat, who I adore, he's one of my favorite characters, he's my baby ... but in like the first five books he annoys the crap out of me. There's this one moment in TSR I just re-read that really made me hate him for a second. I'm hopeful that kind of casual misogyny is just not present.

I agree on the relationships piece - I really appreciated RJ's soft touch when it came to R and X rated scenes, but then he also used that soft touch with any sort of relationship and emotional bonding.

After some pondering, I've found the biggest thing I hope they'll change (well, apart from the pacing, which is pretty much a given just by the nature of the medium):

Faile's kidnapping by the Shaido, and how Perrin ends that.

I wouldn't weep to see that entire plotline go, since it always felt to me like makework Jordan came up with so Perrin would have something to do while he waited for other people's plots to resolve, and it dragged on foreeeeeeever. But if it's there . . . for me, Perrin selling four hundred women into slavery to rescue Faile is a Moral Event Horizon. It is so profoundly not okay. Rand proposes to stop fighting the Seanchan so they can all focus on preventing the end of the world; okay, that's understandable, even if it sits a bit uncomfortably. But Perrin doesn't even show any real concern for the Shaido's other prisoners, only Faile. And he's willing to let the Seanchan collar every single Shaido Wise One in order to get her back. It killed my sympathy for Perrin so hard that my brain has tried, in self-defense, to forget it ever happened -- but it did happen, and I would love to get a version of the story where it doesn't.

(But yeah, fixing the Mat and Tylin thing so it's either not rape, or is unambiguously recognized and condemned as rape, runs a close second.)

Huh, I picked up on that impending romance eaaaarly on my first read. I agree with some of the others that they either come out of nowhere (Moiraine and Thom) or they go from flirtation to true love commitment foreverness in 5 minutes (Elayne and Rand) or the denial/bickering goes on for 40% too long (Rand and Aviendha) but Lan and Nynaeve feels organic to me (a few other relationships feel organic to me as well, Mat and Tuon, Bayle Domon and Egeanin)

I haven't had time to confirm this, but someone on The Dusty Wheel mentioned that they'd seen ratings of 16, 17, and 18+ in countries other than the US. They also mentioned that clips they saw at a London Comicon felt closer to 16+. That makes me hopeful that they'll lean into the scary parts, and that the relationships might be better depicted than in the books.
