...or good evening, as the case happens to be as I write. A new face I bring, and much to share. I've been a fan of the Wheel of Time since my middle school days, and have read it in its entirety a few times now.

A bit about me? If you insist... I am a QA tester in the gaming industry, play quite a few video games in my spare time. I've been a DM/GM/SM for tabletop games for about 13 years or so now. I study all manner of subjects, and I thoroughly enjoy discussing things both real and fiction.

I study fantasy languages as well, though mostly as a hobby. My favorite is Dovahzul, because it's very fun to speak in.

Questions? Fire away. I have an answer for everything, even if it may not be the answer you're expecting.

Welcome, Deven.
Glad to see a new member who's enjoyed the series for years.
I'll toss out some questions for you based on your bits
Do you know Qenya?
In gaming what's the most unusual way of rolling for your character? D20, cards, a handful of d6, wands etc. ?
Also are you a fan of AoK?

I do know Quenya! I admit that my spoken Quenya is a bit rough, but I can still read and write in it. I actually translated some Shakespeare into Sindarin a few years ago.

I've used coins in a hat before. Highest value was a critical, lowest was failure.

Can't say I'm familiar with AoK , unless you are referring to Age of Empires 2!

Thank you kindly for the welcome! And no, I still enjoy my work even if I don't enjoy the game I'm testing. It's sort of like solving a puzzle when you break the game and its systems.

Welcome! It's great to have you here. Your work sounds very interesting. I'm sure there's drudgery in it, like in every job, but overall, it seems pretty great.

Welcome to Tar Valon! So is your job a bit like beta testing games, in great detail?

Well, learning the languages vary. I cannot say that I am as fluent as I am with English. Part of that is because it is difficult to maintain a language without speaking it frequently, and it is rare to find people to talk to. As for how I learned, I just decided I wanted to learn one when I was reading some of Tolkien's stuff. Language fascinates me, so I just started learning more and more. I wouldn't be able to read a book in all the languages I know, but I can hold a conversation, and I have enough notes to be able to do things like translate Shakespeare.

I was somewhat hasty in stating what I do. More specifically, I am a Test Lead, though I was previously a tester. QA Testers do somewhat like what beta testers do, but on a much larger scale. The builds are often very broken, and it changes every few days as the developers fix issues from previous builds. They also have to regress bugs to see if they are still occurring, and run checklists to test the completeness of a feature.

A test lead is, as you would guess, someone that leads the testers. I have a team of about 8-10 people at any given time, and I make sure they have tasks for the day as well as any information they need to do their testing. I also mentor and groom them, all to improve them as testers. Usually this takes the form of analyzing their strengths and weaknesses and assigning work that suits them. Some people are good at actually playing the game, others can notice minute issues with the UI, and others still are just really good at crashing the game.

Hi Deven! I hope you will like it here :welcome

Always cool to meet someone from the same or related fields. I'm a software engineer, though not in gaming.
I was never able to learn Quenya, but I know a few words

Can you say any games you have previously worked on without breaking rules of your job?

I very much enjoyed Age of Kings! The best RTS I've played, I think.

I can maybe talk about what I've worked on in a few weeks. I can say I've been on the same team for about 14 months. NDA prevents me from talking about processes or bugs, but I think I can talk about the title itself when it launches.

And thanks everyone for the warm welcome!

Hi and welcome! Your job sounds super duper interesting, thanks for sharing all that!

What table top systems have you played in the most/most prefer playing or DMing in?

I'm personally pretty partial to Pathfinder. I have little experience outside of various D&D editions and pathinder, though.
