Re: Towers of Midnight Re-Read-along! Prologue-Chapter 4 (starting 2/5)

Prologue – LAAAAANNNN, I love Lan's plot in this book. The slow gathering of his army even if he hates it.

Towers of Midnight Chapter 1 – Now we get to see Rand be utterly awesome, I think Dragon Mount is when Rand truly and fully accepts he is The Dragon Reborn, before he had accepted that he was the Dragon, and Lews Therin was his previous life but he never really accepted that he was Lews Therin, and he knows The Song! He Knows it...and he never tells the Traveling Folk! Come on! That was a plot line that was set up in book 1 that they didn't do anything with.

Toweres of Midnight Chapter 2 – Galad is in charge of the entirety of the Children of the Light now, huzzah someone not a jerkish moron is in charge, it is odd how Galad is said to be the infuriating one when his plot goes to a sensible place given his personality.

Towers of Midnight Chapter 3 - Egwene and Rand have their first meeting as Amyrlin and Dragon, and Rand tells Egwene something sensible and smart, to reforge the Dark One's Prison he has to tear apart the seals.

Towers of Midnight Chapter 4 – I don't know why Galad just goes with Perrin being a Dark Friend, I find it difficult to believe that someone who “always does the right thing” would just go with that with no trial, yes he killed Valda for what happened with Morgaise. However that was a duel and the judgment came from who won, yes a goofy way to decide guilt or innocence but it is at least some manner of judgment.

Prologue: Lan is awesome :D

Perrin reminds me of what part of this book I do not like :look: Perrin is to this book what Rand was to the last one, the chapters you just want to get through and make the protagonist to just get on with it already!

Re: Towers of Midnight Re-Read-along! Prologue-Chapter 4 (starting 2/5)

I really enjoyed this book. The only thing which distracted me was that I felt there is a time gap between the storylines of Rand and Egwene on one side and Perrin and Mat on the other. It starts right at the beginning. Somehow I have the feeling that Rand walks down Dragonmount in chapter 1 about 10 days _after_Perrin faces the Whitecloaks near Jehannah Road in chapter 2. And this continues right up until they all meet up on the Field of Merrilor in book 14.
Can you relate to this feeling? Am I the only one or does somebody know the threads related to this topic? :)

Re: Towers of Midnight Re-Read-along! Prologue-Chapter 4 (starting 2/5)

That is correct, that is what happens. Perrin "sees" Rand atop Dragonmount about halfway through this book. This is largely due to the fact that Rands and Egwenes storylines were the "focus" of the previous book, while Perrin is the "focus" of this book.

Also, best part of the Prologue: The Kandori Tower! I would have LOVED to see that scene somehow made into a Raising ceremony... Raising from recruit to Soldier maybe? :look:

I also dislike that Graendal suddenly is alive again :( I don't really see how that was necessary :(

Re: Towers of Midnight Re-Read-along! Prologue-Chapter 4 (starting 2/5)

Prologue:
-Lan’s collecting an army! “And the one became two” :joy
-Graendal can swap minds with animals temporarily. Imagine if Rand killed Graendal’s body while her mind was still in the bird. Bird Graendal chasing Rand around.
-Graendal makes a split-second decision to kill Aran’gar and Delana to make Rand think she’s dead. Good thinking! So Rand’s plan didn’t work, per se, but he did manage to kill one of the Forsaken at least. Just not the one he intended.
-Galad starts to suspect Asunawa worked with Valda in ‘killing’ Morgase. Galad’s very smart. I realize his righteousness causes problems, but I do kinda like Galad. He’s very responsible and, especially compared to Gawyn, I rather enjoy reading his chapters. Gawyn just frustrates me.
-Fain can kill trollocs with something like the mists from Shadar Logoth.
-Malenarin performing the coming of age ceremony for Keemlin. :cry

Chapter 1:
-The Seanchan prophecies involve the Tower of Ravens breaking and a murderer openly ruling in Seandar.
-Even in Andor, some people consider the Aes Sedai ‘witches’. With Tar Valon being their ‘nest’. :brown-blink:
-Rand is now super zen and is basically part-Ogier here. Looking at him is a very peaceful experience. :pleased-1:
-I love Rand making the orchard bloom. :)
-Rand now bends light around him, rather than darkness.
-Now Rand creates a ta’veren tug on more than just Mat and Perrin to join him in the Last Battle.

Chapter 2:
-The bubble of evil snakes bite both of the Asha’man and Masuri and it just happens to be a venom that hurts channeling ability, which means the only people who can make gateways are suddenly incapable of it! Hard not to see that as ta’veren pulling on the pattern to avoid Perrin sending everyone away through gateways.
-Perrin still has no idea why the Aes Sedai were meeting with Masema. Do we know why??? :scratch
-Perrin thinks Masema was killed by bandits.
-Perrin’s collecting recruits for his army-also possible ta’veren pulling, especially with how quickly the new recruits are learning to fight.
-Galad’s followers killed 1/3 of the Questioners to rescue him. :brown-blink: Wow.
-Galad doesn’t feel deserving of his new position, but keeping it is the right thing to do.

Chapter 3:
-Egwene Dreams of some towers rising and falling (not sure what this is… a quick google search turned up the interpretation that it might be the Forsaken fighting each other), Mesaana invading the Tower, and Rand breaking the seals.
-Rand recognizes the fulfillment of Min’s viewing that Cadsuane taught him something (even if by accident).
-Rand finally exhibits concern for Lan riding to his death. :)
-Ran has resolved to break the seals. Even knowing it’s the right decision, I can definitely understand Egwene’s reaction here! It’s quite a leap to make if you don’t know the history behind it. Rand has the knowledge to make that decision, but Egwene doesn’t necessarily know that.
-The other Aes Sedai in the Hall were so overwhelmed by Rand’s presence that they could barely move.
-The other Aes Sedai realize that Rand’s so far apart from everything now that he could probably have just broken the shield on him without a struggle.

Chapter 4:
-Perrin dreams of Mat fighting a gholam and some fights.
-When wolves hunt in tel’aran’rhiod, they don’t go for the kill because they don’t want to kill their prey in real life. That’s nice. :)
-Galad spreads out the Questioners among each of the companies of Whitecloaks. I do kinda like Galad. He’s very smart about things.
-Some Whitecloaks see monarchs as all Darkfriends… Harnesh quickly backtracks when Galad reminds them that his mother was a monarch. :rolleyes Thank you, Galad, for pointing out some of the problems in the thinking of the Whitecloaks.
-
The Questioners often could not tell the difference between a hardened Darkfriend, a person who was being influenced by Darkfriends, and a person ho simply disagreed with the Children.
Yeah Galad! Saying what the readers are thinking! :D
-Byar is annoyingly zealous and immediately goes in Darkfriend-search mode when asked to stand guard.
-Everyone hates Gawyn and he can’t figure out why. He does eventually realize it, though, at least as it relates to Chubain, and he does handle it well.

Towers of Midnight 5 – Oh Egwene you are so focused on Mesaana that you completely ignore all of the evidence that it is not someone using the power. As bad as Gawyn is at times it is utterly astounding that he manages to be as much of a dope he is in this book and be in the right.

Yeah, as annoying as Gawyn is, the fact that he is correct here is even more annoying :p

Also, I love the alternating viewpoint of Galad and Perrin is masterfully done :) As boring as that whole situation is, the build-up for it is great writing, as always in WoT :pleased-1:

and imagine how much less annoying he would have to be if Egwene just listened to what Gawyn was saying so he didn't have to act like an utter git for the rest of the book. Egwene not telling him about that trap later is especially ridiculous, esepcially as this all comes from another situation in which Gawyn was correct to worry because Egwene is still pouting that Gawyn and Siuan snuck into Tar Valon to save her buns from the Seanchan.

Re: Towers of Midnight Re-Read-along! Chapters 14-19

Chapter 5:
-Gawyn figures out stuff about the murders. Is it the assassins the Seanchan left after their attack? (I forget what they’re called) They find black silk which sounds appropriate.
-Food isn’t spoiling as much now that Rand’s the happy version of himself. :)
-According to the Forsaken’s interpretations of them, the Shadow prophecies say that Perrin will die by their hand.

Chapter 6:
-Morgase still doesn’t know that she was under the influence of Rahvin when she did all those crazy things as queen. She’s still baffled that she did all those things just because she was infatuated with a man.
-Balwer again gets himself on a mission to a city. Morgase can tell that Balwer’s Perrin’s spy and is worried that he’ll tell Perrin who she is… though it really doesn’t seem like Balwer cares enough to do that. :cheeseeni:
-Perrin really is being silly here in trying to force Morgase and Tallanvor to marry. It’s not a plotline I’m particularly interested in, but I was happy with Morgase’s response.

Chapter 7:
-Faile can’t stand to look at golden belts anymore.
-I love Aiel humor.
“Quite a feast. Do you celebrate?”
“Nothing besides breakfast.”
“A mighty victory!”
:rofl
-“Utensils. What was the point?” Ok then, Perrin. :arch
-Balwer’s proving helpful in providing information about the Whitecloak forces.

Chapter 8:
-Teslyn thanks Mat. I like this moment. :)

Chapter 9:
-Lopin dies. :cry

Chapter 10:
-Neald channels saidin and saidar as the leader of a circle and thinks of it as ‘being complete’.
-It makes sense for Galad to fight Perrin if he really believes he’s a Darkfriend, since that’s one fewer Darkfriend leader to face at the Last Battle (as is part of his reasoning).

Chapter 11:
-Mat’s letter to Elayne is weird and a bit over-the-top.
-Birgitte thinks Mat’s backside looks nice.
-Elayne thinks Birgitte’s being superstitious when she says that Mat’s super lucky in dicing.

Chapter 12:
-The Aiel Maidens are following Min around to get a sign of when Rand returns.

Chapter 13:
-Min has more specific viewings of the Last Battle.
-That’s such a cop-out answer, Rand. “What have you been doing for three days?” “Existing, Min.”
-Rand tries to get word out that Egwene’s the Amyrlin, trying to make word spread faster than it would usually.
-Rand promises Nynaeve that he’ll help Lan. :joy :joy
-Rand’s super nervous to see his father again. :(
-Rand can now tell Darkfriends just by looking at them! :eek
-Love this reunion with Tam! :pleased-1:

Towers of Midnight 6 – Now that Perrin saved Faile he is free to actually deal with his Lordship, honestly I think this is one of the reasons the whole Malden plot was drug out as long as it was, Rand's pen-ultimate climax is Dragonmount, Mat's is Saving Moraine, Perrin's is dealing with the Wolves and his Lordship.

Towers of Midnight 7 – Oh the POVs here are all over the place, It is good that both Perrin and Galad wish to meet before coming to blows.

Towers of Midnight 8 – DARN IT MAT OPEN THE LETTER! This is the only time Verin manages to mess up in the entire series.

Towers of Midnight 9 – Teslyn is the reincarnation of a wrestling fan, because she fights using foreign objects

chair.gif

Including using the power to fling mat around now that he doesn't have the foxhead, when I first read this I figured the final fight with the Gholam would involve an Aes Sedai helping mat by using weaves of Air to speed him up just enough to hit the Gholam.

Towers of Midnight 10 – Oh Galad, you dunce “We are gonna battle against a force that can just rip us apart mid charge.”

Towers of Midnight 11 – Elyane cleaning up after her coronation, her eventual solution to what to do with the people who competed with her for the throne is a very good one in my opinion.

Towers of Midnight 12 – So, where in the light is Alanna's OTHER warder, did he have a part in this plot to make her disappear? He isn't mentioned at all here.

Towers of Midnight 13 - And now we see Rand properly savior like, and zen mastery! Of course he apologizes to Cadsuane for..doing absolutely nothing wrong, and he also apologizes to Tam..who is really the person he needed for a while. Really Tam should have been brought to talk to Rand after Moraine fell through the Red Stone Door, and most definitely needed brought in after the end of book 6. Rand needed someone to talk to and as close as he and Min are I think having his father as an anchor to his previous life would have helped him immensely.

Towers of Midnight 14 – Oh Egwene, you are so obsessed with Mesaana that you completely lose sight of any good strategy.

Re: Towers of Midnight Re-Read-along! Chapters 14-19

Chapter 14:
-The Aiel have noticed the changes in Rand. “He has embraced death.”
-When Nynaeve agrees with Rand’s plan to break the seals, Egwene assumes she’s under Rand’s ta’veren influence and can’t possibly just agree with him.
-Elayne wonders whether the Oath Rod might affect her unborn children… not something that usually comes up since Aes Sedai don’t usually have children.
-Egwene’s happy she doesn’t have to go through the testing herself (and I certainly can’t blame her!).
-Nynaeve tells Egwene that the hundred weaves “aren’t so bad.” Umm, I don’t know. That sounds super difficult to memorize 100 super complicated weaves in order. 100 is just excessive…

Chapter 15:
-Nynaeve finds that the madness she sees in Naeff’s mind is similar to Compulsion. Is that only madness caused by saidin? Or does all madness look the same?
-Nynaeve Heals madness! :joy So cool! I do wonder if the technique only works on saidin-caused madness, though. It wouldn’t surprise me if that madness is special.
-Nynaeve believes in Rand’s plan to break the Seals and Rand is shocked. He’s also sad to see her go. He’s actually being nice to his friends now! :D He lets her go, but requests that she return to advise him.
-The madness in Rand’s mind is ridiculous, but his newfound Light powers create a barrier of Light between himself and it.
-Saerin compares Mesaana to the Shadow’s Amyrlin.

Chapter 16:
-Faile finally realizes how selfish and ridiculous she had been nearer the beginning of the series and is embarrassed by how she acted in the Ways that one time. Seriously, Faile. :indifferent: That was ridiculously irresponsible. I still feel bad for Loial after that. D:
-There’s no custom of celebrating a marriage anniversary in the Two Rivers.

Chapter 17:
-Juilin leaves. :(
-Mat enlists the former sul’dam to help him convince Tuon to change their policies about channelers. :) :joy
-Mat considers going to Tar Valon to help her escape the Aes Sedai schemes. :rolleyes
-Mat’s super childish here in his sweetbun gift to Joline. :facepalm
-There’s a stream in the Caemlyn palace that only runs when Elayne uses the garden.
-The stronger you are in the Power, the more slowly you age.
-Elayne starts to try to figure out what to do about the Black Tower and how to use it to her advantage against the Seanchan.

Chapter 18:
-Perrin wonders why he never tried scouting the Shaido camp in Tel’aran’rhiod while Faile was captured.
-Slayer uses the dreamspike.
-Berelain hopes to get close to Perrin because of his connections with Rand. She thinks Faile married him for the same reason.
-Faile freaks Berelain out with talk of duels.

Chapter 19:
-Olver is super gung-ho about the Tower of Ghenjei and wants to help. :)
-There are rumors that get very close to the truth about Mat’s trips to the Aelfinn and Eelfinn. I wonder how those stories got out. Mat didn’t really tell them to a lot of people.
-Mat talks about Aludra’s dragons and casually mentions that he could easily knock down Caemlyn’s walls with them… then wonders why Elayne looks freaked out. :rofl
-Elayne gives Thom a pardon that includes his killing of the king of Cairhien. :pleased-1:

Re: Towers of Midnight Re-Read-along! Chapters 25-32

Towers of Midnight 15 – This bubble of evil is one of the straight up creepiest also.

https://youtu.be/0rJfDVVgGgI?t=762

and Nyneave cures Madness, lets add that to the list of “Things Nyneave have done that people said was impossible, we also see that Rand has a layer of protection from the taint. This is one of the big reasons I think that Rand was never really affected by the taint as much as people assume he was through books 4-11. That layer of light has to be from the Eye of the World.

We are told that the Eye of the World was created for “The Greatest Need the world would face.” however the only thing it was used for was to fight one of the forsaken who was only at the Eye of the World because the Eye of the World Existed, which most certainly isn't The Greatest Need the World would face, neither is “hide the dragon banner, the horn and one of the dark one's seals.”

Which brings up another question, The Amyrlin is supposed to be the “Watcher of the seals” and one of the seals was hidden away under the Eye of the World, in a place that nobody can get to normally and nobody decides to note that for the Amyrlin? That sort of thing is completely important news. “Oh we are gonna seal 3 important things in a place that only a man can get too..lets not tell the person in charge of keeping an eye on one of those 3 items”

Egwene - “Amyrlin for the shadow” is a bit of a stretch I think. I never realized before how much the Egwene vs Mesaana plot annoyed me outside of the actual fight, She focuses so much on one of the Forsaken who really did almost nothing of note.

Mesaana did not cause the tower split, she might have pulled that lever however Ishamael was the one who created the black ajah and allowed it to spread throughout the tower.

Towers of Midnight 16 – daww, and yuck! It is cute that Perrin and Faile tell each other about their personal issues..but I don't wanna know about them getting jiggy with it. In other more important news, we learn a bit about Tam and Kari's habits. It is so adorable they would spend as much as possible once a year and have a picnic, especially considering how sensible Tam is in almost other situation that he just dumps every bit of money they can afford into one meal is completely adorable.

Towers of Midnight 17 – So, in that sequel/spinoff series that was a consideration before Mr. Jordan died...Seta and Bethamin would totally end up as two of Mat's side kicks wouldn't they? They know his position in the empire..and he basically gave them a mission of “Help me figure this crap out.” and he is the prince of the ravens.

Towers of Midnight 18 – Lots of different things here, we check in on Ituralde Perrin begins to train his dreamwalking powers and the plot between Faile and Berelain FINALLY DIES its horrible horrible death.

Towers of Midnight 19 – I wonder if Bridgette has any memory of cannons, Theoretically as a “hero of the ages” she would be born at times when modern weaponry was in use. Also “If men have a choice in what they do, they will probably do the wrong thing.” “Yep, but we demand it anyways.” I love that Mat admits he does dumb things.

Towers of midnight 20 - Screw all of these people, including bloody Egwene. If she doesn't want to seem biased during the test don't make any of the tests, and mind you. Egwene's last test was fundamentally unfair. Let's examine the situation a little deeper.

An Aes Sedai(any one, not just Nyneave) happens upon Lan fighting Dark Hounds and knows Balefire. Lets remind ourselves just -who- Lan is. He is the symbol of the Malkieri, you know the people who outright stopped going to the tower..choosing to risk death rather than go there if they are born with the innate spark, he is a legend among even other warders, and he is a symbol to the Borderlanders.

Do you think any Aes Sedai of her right mind would let that Guy die because of a blanket rule against the only weave that could kill Dark Hounds? That sounds like a really efficient way to demoralize The Warders, and completely alienate the borderlanders permanently.

Towers of midnight 21 - There is only one thing I can comment about this part. "Well..I guess I won't be getting any more tea." Perrin thinks. I love it.

Towers of midnight 22 - Egwene should have told Gawyn about the plan here. You know thinking about it as awesome as she was in the tower fight. She made one gigantic tactical error. She had a huge amount of power..send Nicola through a gateway to the Aes Sedai Camp and have her get backup.

Heck this brings up a new thought. She KNEW the Seanchan were going to attack and she had the Rebel Hall by the hair. Why in the name of the shadow did she not have a plan for that.

Towers of Midnight 23 - Oh Eylane you are a dope some days, and wow we have some great foreshadowing for the attack on Camelyn.

Towers of Midnight 24 - I think..one of Perrin's biggest problems (in story, the writing has all sorts of issues) is that once he had left the Two Rivers, he wasn't very often allowed to have time to think in the way that he does it best. He needs to be doing something while he things, he needs his hands busy, once he becomes "Lord Goldeneyes" he isn't allowed to do anything anymore so he isn't able to think through his problems and they start to pile up making more problems that he can't think through properly.

Towers of Midnight 25 - I love this chapter. Rand..doing good, not through power or magic..but by Charisma and Empathy. "You are on the merchant council now." Not because he is the Dragon or the Cara'carn..but because there plainly is nobody else who will make that call so he does it.

Towers of Midnight 26 - There you go Galad..now you are leading into Lawful Good Territory. Trials are an important thing if you want to have the Rule of law.

Towers of Midnight 27 - Egwene yo-yos from horrible to awesome again. Loopholes are terrible terrible things that lead to bad ends.

Towers of Midnight 28 - In my personal Headcanon...Deepe and Sleete are brothers. I don't know WHY my mind made that a thing..but they totally are.

Towers of Midnight 29 - "It has been since I was a child since I shot myself with an arrow." Uhh Gaul..Can we get a story about HOW you did that in the first place? It seems rather difficult to hit yourself with your own arrow unless something goes terribly wrong. Also the idea of the Ashaman just walking around camp calm as heck putting things down is hilarious. You can just imagine them looking at the weapons and being like "Really? C'mon Son."

Towers of Midnight 30 - It seems Perrin has caught up to Rand's plot mostly. It is odd that just him..and no him and Mat see Rand.

Towers of Midnight 31 - Oh yes..Mat gets revenge on the Gholam, and as skeevy as using "For Love" In regards to Tylin is..the old tounge sounds awesome enough for me to let it slide.

Towers of Midnight 32 - Rand finally lets loose his full power and it is glorious to see.

Towers of Midnight 33 - Darn it Gawyn..you dope you have evidence you are right. GO BACK AND STUFF IT UP EGEWENE'S NOSE!

Towers of Midnight 34 - Nothing to discuss here

Towers of Midnight 35 - Morgaise does a very tricky thing here. She gives the White Cloaks the justice they want..but places the entirety of the sentence on Galad..forcing him to choose "what is right" and Perrin was technically in the right when he killed White Cloaks as he was defending himself. They had no authority in Andor to tell him to do anything.

Towers of Midnight 36 - It is awesome that Perrin, the big strong guy with the hammer..has to do a Mat style "YOINK AND RUN" to get the dream spike away.

Towers of Midnight 37 - I love how the plots intersect here, and that Perrin is the one to get Egwene to realize that Her control of the dream is far stronger than weaves.

Towers of Midnight 38 - Gawyn was a dope. Of course the answer was to put the room in shadow. Poor fool not realizing it earlier.

Towers of Midnight 39 - So..did the Wheel of Time Compendium that came out last year..tell us what Nakomi is?

Re: Towers of Midnight Re-Read-along! Chapters 25-32

I agree, the Mesaana vs Egwene plot is not interesting. It seems like it is just something to keep her story going while waiting for the Last Battle to begin...

I also don't understand why Perrin needed to be at Dragonmount, but it may be just needed a witness... Or to show where he was in the timeline... In short, there is way too much Perrin in this book :rolleyes

Gawyn continues to be annoying :indifferent: Not even him saving Egwene at the end of the book is really a saving grace, not when we know what that leads to :indifferent:

Nynaeves testing was really, really unfair, and yes, Egwenes participation was almost the worst :indifferent: In what way was she supposed to deal with the Darkhounds, if not with Balefire? And why did they have to take her braid :tug

Re: Towers of Midnight Re-Read-along! Chapters 25-32

Chapter 20:
-Nynaeve not only uses the One Power, but uses Balefire in the ter’angreal. :brown-blink: The test is designed so that you can’t channel until you reach the star.
-Nynaeve tries to explain that the White Tower shouldn’t be the most important thing in the world. It’s important only because of what it can accomplish.

Chapter 21:
-The Aiel are considering a blood feud with the Seanchan, giving them a year and a day to release the Wise Ones, then attacking. Go, Aiel!! :swordy
-Morgase learns that Gaebril was Rahvin. I keep forgetting she didn’t know that yet.
-Balwer’s super happy to fight some Whitecloaks.
-Perrin is worried that Morgase acting weird means a bubble of evil’s coming.
-Perrin still doesn’t realize what Balwer is and what he’s doing (though he suspects).
-Balwer isn’t lying when he says that he respected his previous employer who was killed by Whitecloaks.

Chapter 22:
-Gawyn wears red and gold, in support of Andor.
-Bryne has the orchard that Rand made bloom like crazy circled a bunch on his map. :giggle
-Bryne is wise and gives Gawyn lots of good advice. Tells him he should have more of a goal in life than Egwene.
-Gawyn sees the bloodknife briefly and Egwene catches Gawyn in her traps.
-I love how Noam talks about Jain Farstrider. :giggle
-We learn that the Aes Sedai had made a deal with the Aelfinn/Eelfinn because they want Aes Sedai memories in return.
-Noam really wants to go to the Tower of Ghenjei since it’s the one place he hasn’t been.
-Birgitte reveals that they were able to hang Mat, but not hurt him otherwise, ‘cause they can’t draw blood.
-I love how aghast Birgitte is that tale of her in the Tower of Ghenjei has been forgotten. It makes sense that the more victorious stories are the remembered ones, though. You died in the Tower, Birgitte!

Chapter 23:
-Sylvase’s secretary is (obviously) super evil. Is Sylvase a Darkfriend, too? She fled after her secretary was killed.
-Elayne’s super lucky here… I realize she was confident and her plan wasn’t terrible, but why couldn’t she have waited a few hours until Birgitte could bring some backup? I mean, as far as she knew, tomorrow would’ve been just as good a time for the plan as now. She was just impatient.
-And then she decides, after the first problems, that she’s just going to stay there alone and calmly check the cells… alone. :facepalm She’s sooo lucky that they didn’t steal the real medallion. :indifferent:
-Egwene is super certain that it’s Mesaana who’s killing people. Understandable assumption, but still frustrating.
-Gawyn goes back to Andor, realizing he needs to want more than just Egwene. :) Glad Bryne was able to knock a bit of sense into him.
-“The five had become dozens, but it would stop there.” :rofl

Chapter 24:
-Elayne’s being super stubborn. She realizes she shouldn’t have done what she did, but still doesn’t think it’s ‘fair’ that she’s set to bedrest for one week. :arch
-Ituralde considers the label ‘Dragonsworn’. It has a lot of connotations to it (and negative ones), but Ituralde is doing what he’s doing because of orders from the Dragon.
-Torkumen insists that Rand’s a false Dragon. Ituralde wisely sees this and accuses him of being a Darkfriend. He turns out to be right.
-Perrin learns to master Tel’aran’rhiod.
-Lots of wolves gathering around Dragonmount to see if the Last Battle will really happen.
-Slayer is shocked that Perrin can read the scents of where he just jumped to and follow him.
-Elyas tells Perrin about Tel’aran’rhiod a bit. He refuses to enter it himself.

Re: Towers of Midnight Re-Read-along! Chapters 33-39

Chapter 25:
-Bandar Eban has turned out exactly as expected after Rand abandoned it to starve and Rand finally feels that guilt that comes from that decision.
-Min finally sees happy imagery above Rand and images of hope for the Last Battle and beyond.
-Min sees an insane amount of viewings above the people in Bandar Eban because of how Rand will rally them.

Chapter 26:
-The Dreamspike is preventing gateways.
-I like Edarra’s assessment of the Whitecloaks: “I have heard some of what these men in white have done in the wetlands. I think they wear white to hide the dark inside of them.”
-Galad and Berelain are both stunned by how beautiful the other one is. :rofl
-Galad at first thinks that he has ‘done evil’ from having killed Valda based on false pretenses since Morgase isn’t dead.
-Galad assumes that Morgase renounced the throne of Andor for fear that Perrin would use it again her. :facepalm
-Galad is moving the Whitecloaks in a better direction, realizing they need to have legal justification for what they do if they want to have popular support and act righteously.

Chapter 27:
-Egwene releases Mattin from his captivity in the White Tower. Not that he’ll be leaving immediately, but it’s still good that Egwene’s being reasonable and not kidnapping rulers like Elaida did. :facepalm
-Egwene’s Black Ajah hunters stand for her proposal and Egwene and her supporters try to push it through before anyone realizes what’s happening. Saroiya realizes that Egwene’s gaining responsibility for dealing with Rand, but too late. Very clever, Egwene! :bow
-Her other proposal is also a very good one, though. It’s not good for the Tower for factions to be able to convene and maneuver in secret constantly.

Chapter 28:
-Perrin comes to the Tower of Ghenjei in the Wolf Dream because of Mat’s fixation on it. Interesting how their connection works sometimes.

Chapter 29:
-Morgase is great and confronts Galad on his attitudes toward Perrin. :) He tells Morgase that, if it got down to executing the prisoners, he would have recognized and pulled Lini out, which would have been inherently unfair and sets him thinking. Morgase challenges his idea of a set line between right and wrong. “Life is not so easy as the toss of a coin, one side of the other.”
-I love Aiel humor. Gaul just laughing off getting stabbed, saying it’s been awhile since he shot himself with his own arrow. :rofl
-Perrin was thoughtful, making sure that nearby villages weren’t affected by the bubble of evil.
-I get sick tired of the ‘hammer vs. axe’ debate… Not that I think the plot is bad or not well-done, but I just personally don’t find it that interesting. Perrin notices that his hammer didn’t come to life and try to kill him and starts thinking about why that is.
-Perrin’s a bit behind in the timeline and so we see Tam get called by Cadsuane to meet with Rand.
-Elayne refuses to participate in Daes Dae’mar, which I agree is smart.
-Birgitte watching the testing of the cannons:
“The world just changed, Elayne. It just changed in a very large way. I have a terrible feeling that it’s only the beginning.”
Gives me chills.

Chapter 30:
-Perrin learns for the first time that Tel’aran’rhiod isn’t only for wolves and begins to learn to master the World of Dreams as we know it, where he can change things with his thoughts. He trains in nightmares. Super dangerous, but at least he has a talented teacher who can pull him out if he’s about to die.
-The wolves know that the deciding on factor on whether there will even be a Last Battle is approaching and they gather around Dragonmount to witness Rand make that decision. If he doesn’t, according to the wolves, that path leads to ‘nothing’.
-Tel’aran’rhiod reflects a crazy tempest because of what’s happening on Dragonmount in the real world.
-Perrin can actually see Rand in Tel’aran’rhiod, as a reflection, even though he’s not asleep.
-The wind blows Rand’s hair, but not his clothes, almost like he’s a Myrddraal.
-“The Last Hunt begins, Young Bull! We live. We live!” :joy :joy :joy

Chapter 31:
-Mat’s so well-known in the city that people gather at windows to watch him pass and lots of people try to kill him.
-Mast plans very very well for this fight. The gholam continues to fall through the void. Makes you wonder whether, as Mast asks, gholams can die or whether it will fall forever. The gholam was apparently able to sense the Channeling, even with their precautions, but Mast was able to distract it enough that it didn’t matter.

Chapter 32:
-Bashere kind of wants to defend Torkumen initially, but then realizes that he sucks.
-Rand comes and apologizes to Ituralde, facing the Shadowspawn himself so Ituralde’s sacrifice won’t be in vain.
-Rand shows off all his insane power. :brown-blink: It’s insane how much he can do at once and for at least an hour at a time. :brown-blink: :brown-blink: He also uses weaves that somehow only target Shadowspawn, not the buildings themselves.
-Darkfriends can’t stand to be in the presence of Rand.
-Min discovers the fatal flaw of Callandor. “Light is held before the maw of the infinite void, and all that he is can be seized.”
-I love how happy Ituralde is here to discover his king lives. :joy :joy :joy

Re: Towers of Midnight Re-Read-along! Chapters 33-39

I do in fact :rofl every time I read the section about Elayne being carried around in her bed :look: Well, while she probably should have found a smaller bed, the idea is not bad :look:

And very Elayne :p
