I think I'd be a Perrin. Well...if I had, you know, muscles. The lanky/scrawny thing aside, the personality seems pretty close.
^ this I do not understand. If I were a male I would never ever be a warder. It's very bad and very unfair option for a man. I mean, Aes Sedai can compel a warder and defenitely does it. Warder never survives (with some exception) loosing his AS, where AS survives with only a little depression. And if a green wants to take 3 other warders, she just takes and do not ask her existing warder's opinion. A concept of a warder is slavery (in my eyes). It's very hypocritical to disapprove compulsion and at the same time compel warders.I would be A shienaran. I would be a WARDER.
Aww Deiria.. Its a wierd thing with me ( or maybe just a lot of guys). We find Honor in such things. Doing what others would be unwilling to do. Doing your duty. Serving another heart and soul for the greater good. Enduring heardships so that others may benefit and live free. THIS to me is the essence of Honor and for myself Honor is truly everything. Its how i really do try and live my life. I instill it in my children as well because though it is harder and harder in this age to live your life with a code of honor , this is easily the time that needs it most!
Corrruption is rife! We must combat it by doing our Duty! So the REWARD is in the service. just as a Knight served for the greater good! ( although most knights in real lufe were horrible!) im thinking Just as an Arthurian Knight would serve, so would I serve! I know. GUYS have wierd notions!
I whole heartly agree with you, and try do the same myself and for my kids. For instance, to me it is very important to to protect the ones that cannot protect themselves (children, animals, nature, etc.). I do understand you point of view and do understand the (polished) ideology of being a warder, protector etc but the reality of being a warder is very different. I don't disaprove bonding itself, for instance bonding between female -> male channelers are equal and has advantages, likewise female -> female bonding. But bonding male -> female channelers seems to be the same as regular bonding which I do not approve.
We may life our lives honourable if we choose to do so (and we should!). After you become a warder, you may not choose anymore. A warder has to protect his AS, even if she turns to black. They are compelled and forced to do things with or without their approval. AS don't ask. It requires trust to give yourself and soul to another completely. "Here, take my free will and you use it wisely". Aes Sedai are people as well, with in good and bad. People change, they are selfish, they are petty, you never know. Besides, I suspect not many Aes Sedai even tells the guys about compelling they do or other ill-effects before bonding. It's the fine print guys never read until its too late.
I'm just re-reading wot and according to Moiraine's POV her's & Lan partnership is very very rare in the books. Moiraine (hardly never) compels Lan, but it is very common thing to do. Green's behaviour toward their warders is sickening me. I agree Aiel way of polygamy, because it happens in common understanding. Everyone has to agree. But Greens just take as many warders as they feel. Never ask if existing warder(s) agrees or not. How would you feel if your wife one day takes a guy to your home to and just says: "get along, dudes". This has nothing to do with duty & honor.
I hope I managed to explain more deeply what I mean, but it's difficult to do so with my limited ability to write english. It was rather difficult to find right words and phrases
