Random foreshadowing postulation...

I have a thought that would be fantastic if it ended up being true. Remember when Thom was talking to Elayne back on a boat and said somehting like 'By the time the whole thing comes around again, I might be the hero, throwing fire instead of eating it. Rand will be lucky if they get his name right."

My thought, now that Thom is bonded and going to the Last Battle, is that he will have some important part to play. I think he might be able to channel - his nephew could, and there is a well established theory in Randland that the ability might be genetic. Do we have anything from RJ, team Jordan, BS, etc. that might lend credence or shoot this down? Help me out here.

More than anything though, I think any other foreshadowing postulation things could be discussed here also :) (I'm pretty sure this one will be shot down in five minutes...)

It would be fantastic if Thom could learn to channel. That would mean that he and Moiraine would have many years together, not just ten or so. I have a similar theory about Gawyn since his sister had the Spark. Also, he's quite young, he might be a Sparker himself. We'll see in a week.
Anyway, nothing really gives credence to my theory or yours. It's just that Mr. Jordan was a romantic and he'd probably want some couples have a "happily ever after".

I think the Thom thing is more a play on his surname "Merrilin" and Merlin being a user of Magic in Arthurian legend

There's quite a bit of Arthurian legend in the book, actually. Just off the top of my head, the least obscure ones are:
Egwene Al'Vere = Guinevere
Tar Valon = Avalon
Artur Paendrag Tanreall (Hawkwing) = King Arthur Pendragon

Callandor =Excalibur
Gawain Is also a super famous knight of the Round table.. LOL There is sooo much Arthurian Legend. The Tower Library actually breaks down a lot of it too!

Yeah, that's the one I couldn't think of! I was like... I know there's a sword in the stone reference. Derp.

Both Gawain and Galad are Knights of the round table (well, Galad = Sir Galahad the Pure, Gawain is the guy from the story Sir Gawain and the Green Knight). Um, and the basic plot of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is really interesting, for those who have finished the series.

Elayne (Elaine of Corbenic) is another one. Mordred (AKA Padan Fain), Gareth Bryne, Morgase... yeah. It's a really long list.

RJ mustve REALLY loved Arthurian Legend!!! :P
Arthurian Legend is actually the very reason I ever started reading. At age 15 I never read crud and hated school, then I found an old battered yet elegant copy of Le Mor D'Arthur in two volumes and BAM.. That was it.
My first son is Named Trystan, as In Sir Trystan complete with the "y" instead of "I" :)
2nd son is Ayden named after Ayden son of the chief Bard In the Black Cauldron!( Not Arthurian but still a favorite series from my youth!!!)

The idea of a Thom and Moriane is one of my favorite pairings in the series but I cannot find any link to Arthurian Legend.
Egwene sounds like Guinevere but their characters are nothing alike.

The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again.
