vBulletin - How to Do Various Things AKA New Boards & I'm CONFUSED

Questions that aren't essential to our survival but still would be nice to know. I'll copy/paste my instructions for avatars, sigs, and making the text options available here too.


Is it possible to change the title of a thread?

Sigs

The import brought sigs! That's the awesome news.

The not-so-awesome news is that some of them are broken or have GINORMOUS font sizes.

To fix:

Settings (in the top right corner)
On the left you will see My Messages, My Subscriptions, and My Settings. Under My Settings, click Edit Signature.

Then edit your sig! It's even easier here than it was at the old boards because you can highlight and select color or font size or font (I swear I will never use that again D.


Avatars

Settings (in the top right corner)
On the left you will see My Messages, My Subscriptions, and My Settings. Under My Settings, click Edit Avatar.

Assuming you have it saved on your computer, you can upload from there. Or you can enter the url if you have it stored online.

Note: I tried to use the link of my avatar in the library, but it didn't work. I may have done it wrong, though.


Turn on Enhanced Text

By enhanced text I mean the bar of text options above a post you're writing, but I'm sure you have all that memorized.

What? You don't have the bbcode memorized? OK, fine.

Settings (in the top right corner)
Under My Settings, you'll see three options. Click General Settings.

This is where you can set a bunch of stuff. Time zone, pm emails, pm pop ups, how you view your forums (though this might be standardized for everyone). Down at the very very bottom, under Miscellaneous, you'll see three buttons, for Standard, Enhanced, and something else. Choose Standard or Enhanced so you get that bar of text-fancifying stuff.

Remember to save.


Edit the Title of a Thread

Click the edit button like you're editing your post.
Click Go Advanced.


Go to Top of the Page

Assuming you're all the way at the bottom because you just read the WHOLE page, the Top button is pretty small, but it's on top of the Quick Reply box, all the way on the right.

A Whole Bunch of Stuff about Private Messages

Click Private Messages.

Aaaaaall the private messages you had on the import date are there, in one folder. If you had folders on the old boards, you'll have to re-do them.

To add a folder, in the sidebar under My Messages, click Edit Folders.
Scroll down to the last block, Add New Folders.
There are 3 fields; you can create 3 folders at a time.

To add messages to folders, go back to your Inbox (in sidebar, under My Messages, Inbox).
Click the boxes on the right to select messages for a folder. The title and all the info will highlight (right now they turn yellow, but that might change).
Scroll down to the bottom of all your messages, and click Selected Messages (X).
It will give you a drop down. The first selection is Move to Folder. Click Proceed.
Choose the folder from the drop down.

To delete pm's, go to your Inbox.
Select the pm's you wish to delete.
Scroll down to the bottom of all your messages, and click Selected Messages (X).
It will give you a drop down. Select Delete.
Click Proceed.
IT DOES NOT ASK ARE YOU SURE. So be sure before you click Proceed.

Rinse, lather, repeat on Sent Messages, etc.

To Send a Private Message
Click a person's name.
You get a drop down menu.
There's lots of stuff you can do, but to send the message, choose Private Message.

You can also send a pm by clicking Private Messages.
In the sidebar, under My Messages, choose Send New Message.

Hide My Birthday

Click Settings OR Private Messages.
In the sidebar, under My Settings, click Edit Profile.
In the second section, you have the option of entering your birthdate, and the second option is labeled Privacy. It's a dropdown that gives you several options regarding your birthdate and age.
If you say to show your birthday, your name will show up on the calendar.
When you've selected your option, scroll down and save changes.

Is it possible to change the title of a thread?

Edit > Go Advanced

If you click on a the post to edit it and then click go advanced, you can edit the title then.

The one thing I knew and Erin Sedai beat me to it

Rules is rules, Erin Sedai. I Sedai all who have the title, except in The Hall and Dept Membership/Water Cooler. Cos they let me away with it

Cause it would be dumb to make you do it there!

Go for it! I'm happy to share. That's where I got my long post, was telling the Reds how to do stuff because I know that even if there's a help forum some of them won't visit it.

Random, but in case anyone was curious about it -- if you have your birthday as viewable, your name (and your age if you enable that setting) pops up on the Calendar. Kind of cool!

And Yele, there is an option that says "New Posts" in the Forum navigation up top. It's the first option.

Can someone clarify "visitor messages"? Does it mean all messages we receive will be available for public viewing if it is on?

Also, I turned on the Enhancement so I can use font colors and bolding and stuff and I can't find where it is supposed to show up so I can use it....I am using Chrome browser, is that a problem?

And, while I'm here, my inbox says it has like 773 messages in it but I can't find them to delete them.

Visitor messages are messages people leave on your profile.

The text editor will appear when you need to type in text. You should get a mini-bar in the Quick Reply box, or select Go Advanced to see a more elaborate one.

Check your private message folders, including Sent Messages.
