If I remember correctly 7 was one that picked up toward the end. It's really hard for me to remember which events happened in which book except for really major ones, which is part of why I've been so quiet, I can't remember if you've read certain things yet. But I'm pretty sure the end of book 7 was a winner for me. The first part was slow. I think there's a thread in this forum about how much I didn't like book 8 though! :laugh:

It had a couple really good scenes, but on the whole was pretty dry for me.

I basically agree with your ratings on books 1, 5, and 6. 3 is my least favorite in the whole series so far so we are ... not in alignment there. :look:

and I loved 4. 2 is slow for me, but has enough good stuff to keep me reading.

Your opinion is a common one. People didnt care for book 3 all that much, and loved book 4. We all have our own opinions. For me, the hardest to rate was the first two books because my mind tends to blurr them together as one book.. probably because the slow pace makes me wish they were tbh.

(I dont just use reddit and here. I found another wot forum. But I only google topics from there, havent joined it.)

edit: even if it picks up, they simply shouldnt have bothered with the first 24 chapters so far... just merge them into maybe two or three chapters if they are goIng to contain so little. Its also strange that book 7 is the shortest in length so far. I wonder why that is? I genuinely do.

Well, the end of the books are generally better than the beginnings... But if you think the books are slow now, you have a lot of skimming ahead of you

It picks back up around book 11 :pleased-1:

I've heard complaints about the pacing of book 9 but I liked that one pretty much from beginning to end, so people's opinions definitely vary. 10 is supposedly the slowest of the series, and I'm liking it so far.

Honestly, book 7 isnt horrible, just kind of pointless thus far. 28 chapters so far and no signs of anything that truly matters anywhere....

edit: aaand it just became rape. It isnt funny anymore. Poor Mat.

Agreed, Sephi. I do feel bad for Mat in this book. There's more to come with this story line.

All I will say is... even if the plot happens soon, 95% of this book (book 7) had nothing happening...so the 5% wont make up for it. I will say this, at least its way shorter than book four...less filler to endure, even if the percentage is the same.

edit: Finished chapters 28 to 33. So far, just beginning to do set up for stuff that would be an entire story unto itself. Like the start of a new book... very late to do that unless it no doubt wont have much pay off this book, or unless its all very rushed.

The Kin being told they can be aes sedai. Min and Rand saying thr love each other rigyt before he goes to talk to the sea folk.

The seachan coming before morgase in a chilling moment (I still hate the seachan but I figure i am supposed to). The bowl has a lead from Mat. (probably the only part that might have even a chance to conclude in this book)

Did Elayne just joke about Mat being raped? She went from my current favorite to on my shit list quick...I may forgive her later but at present I hate her guts!

Yeah the Tylin/Mat relationship made me pretty disgusted, as well as the other characters responses to it. He clearly gets raped by Tylin but since he is a guy it's laughed off. :indifferent:

Yes, true. I'm always very uncomfortable when I see cosplays of pink ribbon Mat too.

and yeah, it was funny to me all the way until he got raped. Then it was just flaming wrong.

Anyways, I forgave Elayne. Getting ever closer to finishing the 7th book. They got the bowl, so at least something at all was ahcieved this book. (the one plotline I didnt care about. But the Kin and Sea folk are both neat, at least.)

7th book ended in a manner quite anticlimactic, and the book was VERY uneventful...but far less boring than book 4. I give it at 5/10. Essentially a complete waste of time, and dissapointing, but inoffensive

Now that I'm thinking about it, I'm pretty sure book 7 is where my dad stalled out in reading the series. He was really enjoying it before that book. It's been a long time for me, so I tend to forget which events happened where. Congrats on getting through it at least!

I mean, they got the bowl and he conquered Illian, I guess? But the former I didnt care about and the latter had little fanfair and felt very hollow. Books and books of build up, and anticipation for the invasion of Illian...the pay off was shallow and just, meh. What a dissapointment. Guess now that he has the crown, I will see what he does with it as the book go on but this was just bad. I am lowering my rating to 4/10. The invasion of Illian and battle with samamael had far too much wasted potential.

I think that's @Jarl Lewin 's favorite book. Unless I'm scrambled. It was not one of my most favorites, but it wasn't one of my least favorites either. The beginning of book 8 scenes with Elayne and Aviendha are some of my favorites in the series so far. I hope you'll enjoy them as much as I did.

I agree that the battle with Sammael was anticlimactic. But when Liah pops out at Shadar Logoth and Rand had to kill her, that was a really emotional moment for me.

Yes, A Crown of Swords is indeed one of my favorites! I found the Kin fascinating in particular and enjoyed Ebou Dar in general. Will have to do a WoT reread soon!

I definitely agree that both are interesting, but only mildly so and not enough exciting things happened in this book for me to feel it was worth it

Elayne and Aviendha are my favorite dynamic duo of the series. They get so much better after this book too. Keep going! :sword
