I hope they don't reach into New Spring too much in the first season. I think they can still have it in Moiraine's perspective without shoving Aes Sedai politics into the audience's face at the door.

Definitely! I see NS as more of a window into what leads up to tFoH and LoC, and as such is backstory that could be used very creatively in adapting it for television.

When I say start with parts of New Spring, I meant the highlights, with the Prophesy being told, and how Moiraine starts the search. I did not mean all the tiny little details in the book. They can come later, if at all...

I only worry a bit, though, that focusing on an Aes Sedai character right out of the gate (especially the New Spring narrative) risks alienating the new viewer, who has a lot to download about who this woman is and what she is and who this society is, etc.

I'm not too worried about that. I think people are growing used to both fantasy settings and also being dropped into new stories about a person with powers. They don't have to learn the whole history and setting to understand "this is a woman with magic who's searching for someone, and this is her bodyguard" which is enough to begin with. And she will get to the village, and people will be wary of her, and viewers will say "oh, I know all about people mistrusting witches, we used to burn them, this makes sense" and they won't feel out of their depth at all, and the more intricate details of the setting will be gradually absorbed as the story unfolds.

Yeah I kind of pictured a prologue of sorts with the prophesy being told interleaved with the book-prologue

Yes, that is exactly my thoughts as well :) With a story teller in the book, maybe Moiraine thinking back, and her voice. A bit like the Prologue in Fellowship of the Ring really :look:

Calm down, Esmeralda. :rofl They can include it, but maybe over time is what I'm saying.
Lol fine.

YOU GUYS. Imagine talking to people about what Ajah they would choose like people talk about which Hogwarts House they're in now.

Oh boy. If they stick to the books with regards to the Reds we meet until Pevara, then I can only imagine the looks I'll get when I say I'm Red Ajah :rofl

Red will be like Slytherin :look:
They'll have advocates reminding the fans that just because there were bad Reds who did bad things it doesn't make the Red Ajah a bad Ajah

This is EXACTLY it. I have lots of friends who say they're Slytherin. And, you can always say that the overall goal of the reds is to prevent another Breaking... they're just a little aggressive about it :rofl

I have a feeling that with Star Trek Vulcans already being popular, and with Hogwarts Houses having a similar purpose, White and Brown will probably be the Ajahs that people understand the easiest. It just seems that they're going to be the Ajahs that people have the easiest time initially understanding, because there are already fandoms that have similar aspects. However, that us not to say that with Hogwarts Houses having set the precedent people won't pick up the idea very quickly.

A lot of Gryffindors would say Blue or Green for sure. Honestly I could see a lot of people identifying with each Ajah, I mean, that's why we're here, right?

I mean, book Ajahs are different than site Ajahs, so TV show Ajahs are probably going to be quite a bit different, too. :P

(For reference, I'm book Gray/Yellow, while I'm 100% site Blue.)

The Reds kinda play into my hope for adjustments in gender politics. :look: Most of them ended up perpetuating the stereotype that they all hate men. Pevara is the only one I can think of that started off as a sympathetic Red in that regard. Most of the others had to be "guided" or had to have their arm twisted to see reason.

A lot of the Reds ended up being black, too. I think the Grey got the shortest shrift in the books when it comes to that - I really can't think of an example of a really cool Grey character.

And that's a good point, Jeffan Sedai. I suppose they could interpret the Ajahs differently on the show. But having that common vocabulary to discuss with random strangers and bond/disagree over that identity will be super fun xD

Yeah, there are some Grays that I feel bad for, like Merlille, but I tend to like a lot of OC Grays, rather than canon Grays.
