A friend ( @Ilissa al'Nari ) bugged me again and again during the winter 2008/2009, saying I had to read these books. I gave in in February 2009, and I'm so happy Ilissa wouldn't back down. I was hooked after reading about half of the prologue of The Eye of The World! Then I was told I had to join this site, and in April 2009 I did. That was one of the best decisions ever. I found friends here, and the Tower is family to me.

My father actually had the full collection prior to the release of A Memory of Light, and I was bored out of my head with all the YA that filled the shelves of my high school's library. I picked up the Eye of the World and asked "What's this?" He told me to read it and find out. He actually had to come and take it from me later that night so I could go to bed to be awake for school the next morning. This was early 2011, I think, which would have put me at 15.

When I was a freshman in high school, we were given a group project to do for a book from a prepared list that our teacher had. I wasn't sure which one I wanted to read, so my teacher recommended The Eye of the World, because he saw me reading Harry Potter in class. I wasn't looking forward to the group aspect of the project, but my group decided that I would be the one to read the book, and they would do the "project" work. lol

I finished the first book, and before we were even done with the project, I had moved on to the Great Hunt. I was in my junior year when Crossroads at Twilight came out, and kind of drifted away from the series when someone told me it was mostly filler. I picked it back up again after my first big anxiety attack. It's just been a part of me since day one, I think.

My dad had the whole collection up to whichever the latest book was circa 2008, and I was bored with reading just books for school (I was in 8th grade I think) and he had me start reading them! I dragged one of my friends along on the journey as well and we would debate the books and pretend to be Aes Sedai :D

That sounds like fun. :pleased-1: I had a few friends in high school I could talk to about the books too, but we fell out of contact after graduation.

It wasn't until I met a friend online when I was almost done with college that I started to pretend to be Aes Sedai. Heehee.

It was last year that I was introduced to the Wheel of Time. It was where two of my friends that I have made met and married each other. They wanted to share the joy that series has brought them to myself and my other friends as a group. So I went to a bookstore picked up my own copy of the Eye of the World and haven't stopped yet. I am currently on the Path of Daggers and can't wait to finish the series.

I can see how deep the books get into detail on each little piece moving along in the story. Like a game of stones, from the novels or chess, we as the reader get a view of the pieces moving into place and the actions are coming to clash against each other. I look forward to finishing the series as fast as I can, but till then I am enjoying the tale the weave webs.

The building I grew up in had a "take a book/leave a book" table in the basement where someone left a hardcover copy of TSR. I was a young lad and a certain part of the cover caught my eye enough for me to give the flap a look, seemed interesting.

At first reading it seemed so dull I put the book aside in favor of the copy "The Soviet Political Mind" I'd also grabbed, but when I went back to it one rainy afternoon and got up to the Trolloc attack on the stone I was hooked.

FWIW the early part of TSR did seem a lot more interesting on my second read through, after I started with book 1 and read the series in proper order.

Yeah, it is always hard to start in the middle of the series, but TSR does introduce a few new elements, like the Aiel, so it would probably work out to start with without being too lost...

After the last Harry Potter book came out in 2007, I asked a friend who is also a librarian for suggestions. She said that Wheel of Time was very popular. About that time my wife had major surgery and I was housebound for months, so I sat around reading them continuously. She is well now and I am just getting around to my first re-read. This time I am reading a chapter a day to her outloud. It is hard to not clarify too much and give away what happens next. On the other hand, I am picking up quite a bit of foreshadowing this time through.

My brother liked the series. I got a hold of his books. Twenty three years later, here I am. :P

It gets more keen the more you more read it! That's one thing I love about this series.

As rotten as it is, everything seems to revolve around Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy in my life. Not long after I was diagnosed in 2000 and I had read and reread everything in the house, a friend recommended tWoT. It was particularly engaging to me and the description of Saidin as "freezing fire" and "molten ice" was exactly how I had described the pain and sensations I was feeling. That wasn't what drew me in though; the story telling, slightly ponderous :look: but ever descriptive took me away to a place far away from what was going on with me physically, just as I expect all good books to do: take us away from the humbug and humdrum of the ordinary into the Extraordinary. That's what good writing can do! :D

Eye of the World was required reading for my English 395 class (Fantasy). It was a great class, found a bunch of new authors, and I learned I'm one of the only people who didn't like The Hobbit (I like the trilogy, but just...don't like The Hobbit.....). And what other kind of class can you watch Disney's Alice in Wonderland (animated) and get grades for it......

I love classes like that! :) After I finished college, I couldn't (still can't) turn off the analytical side of my brain while watching movies.

I have mixed feelings about the Hobbit. Sometimes it is absolutely delightful, and at other times it just seems . . . not so delightful. I will probably still read it again at some point, because I do get the urge to reread it now and again, but last time it just really seemed to fall flat for me. Not that it is a bad book; it just may be one of those that I may not fully appreciate again until I am older. I like it, and I don't. Strange, huh?

I picked up Eye of the World around late 2002 or early 2003. By then I was already a fan of Earthsea, Middle Earth and Krynn and was looking through the bookstore for something new. Eye's cover caught my attention as well as the interior art piece and map. (I love maps :) ) I'm definitely drawn toward color and the blue night sky with the full moon just grabbed my eye. Lan and Moiraine were looking cool too.

But beyond the cover art, it's blurb, "Jordan has come to dominate the world that Tolkien began to reveal." piqued my interest, combined with all the other blurbs inside and on the back, I was just like, "Wow, I gotta give this a shot."

After finishing the first book I was hooked and found TV.net shortly after.

Some time in early 1998, I was at Barnes & Noble with my father, and the cover for tEotW caught my eye. I absently told my dad that I thought the book looked neat and placed it back on the shelf. A couple of months later, I got the book for my birthday, and I've been a fan ever since.

Thinking about it now, I think I need to do a re-read. I haven't read the books since aMoL came out. Also, in three weeks to the day, I'll have been a fan for 20 years. It certainly doesn't feel like it.

Oohhh! My mom picked up EOTW in a garage sale, she had no idea what it was and just thought it looked like something I'd enjoy. She never read the series herself before she passed. It's a bittersweet memory, but one I hold very close to my heart.

Speaking of which, this would've been around 1998-2000, same as Thaddius al'Guy. Curious!

Hello, tWoT friend! Do you feel old like I do after realizing how long it has been since we started?
