An interesting discussion came out in the IRC chatroom tonight!

Trollocs were created before the War of the Shadow to serve as soldiers for the Dark One. They were created by Aginor using both the One and True Power. They were difficult to control. Myrddraal were not created directly by Aginor. They were the accidental occasional offspring of some Trolloc matings. What that means is that there are 4 year old toddler type Myrddraal scampering around out there.

What kinds of lessons to you think Trolloc parents try to impart upon their baby Fades?

What sorts of things would a wee little Halfman say to his parents? What do they say to him?

How do you think young lurks deal with their Myrddraal brothers and sisters?

mewl: and that makes me think about like little 4 year old toddler type fades running around

Marivea: Truth, yas.

Marivea: omg.

mewl: and that makes me giggle, always.

Marivea: Like baby pugs - so ugly they cute

Marivea: tiny little bundles of evil

mewl: maybe I should make a forum post about that

Marivea: "Mother, you cannot command me! I am fear! I am....in bed. Fine."

mewl: "Don't you turn sideways! COME BACK HERE!"

Marivea: Escaping from bath time by turning sideways through a shadow

Marivea: Ah, yeah exactly. hahaha

Wilin: going to myrdraal school

Wilin: doing your homework on the most effective ways to stroll up to a blademaster confidently

The reaction to the first baby Myrdraal: "Oh dear LORD OF THE DARK WHAT IS IT?!"

I think a possible outrigger novels should be about a 8 year old Myrddraal trying to find his place in the world after the Last Battle and the Dragon's Peace. I think it could be the cutest story of evil ever.

Does he disguise himself so no one can see his eyelessness? Run around with a low-slung brimmed hat? Then he gets picked up by a kindly innkeeper and adopted?

baby Fade: "Put me down! I am a Lurk! A Fade! A Neverborn! I stalk the night!" *kicks feet impotently and screams*
Innkeeper: "There's no call to behave like that, young man. I aim to civilize you. Ain't right, having children on the streets. Stop yer caterwauling and get in that bathtub right now."

He pointed his broom angrily at the Inn Keeper. "One day," he hissed through clenched teeth, "One day, I'll have my blade of Thakandar! And you'll sweep out the stables!"

tiny!Fade trotting through the Waste nervously, scarf and hat for a disguise, aiming for the Dragonwall. Unseen, a group of Maidens coo over it while their leaders decide what to do about the "child."

tiny!Fade attempting to bully a group of children into giving him their lunch. One says, contemptuously "We're not scared of you, you skinny little nothing." Horribly offended, the tiny!Fade bursts into angry, tearless sobs.

New York Times: "The greatest book of the year!"

NPR: "You'll laugh, you'll cry, and cheer Fetch on. Who knew an 8 year old Myrdraal could be so dang loveable?"

Buzzfeed: "Ten reasons why Fetch is you."

College Humor: "Totally not copying Buzzfeed. Really. But here's ten reasons why Fetch is totally you!"

Amazon Reviews:
rjloverrrrrr: "This was the best book I've ever read! By the second chapter I was hoping that Fetch would succeed in ushering in a second Breaking!"
books4lyfe: "Man, when Fetch slew the innkeeper with his miniature Thakandar blade, I laughed til I cried, then I cried that I laughed."
oncewasafan: "I always said that this series went downhill when Sanderson took over: this book confirms it. 1/5 stars simply because that's the lowest possible rating."
ihaveissues: "Fetch is life! I've never had a character I empathized with until this little Myrdraal came along. All hail the Great Lord of the Dark!"

:rofl

On a slightly more realistic note, I wonder how long it takes them (and trollocs for that matter) to grow up? Is it accelerated? You could have fun with that too - one day he's a kid and the next week he's hitting puberty!

So what happens when said Fade reaches puberty? :look:

On a more serious note, I wonder how much of their behavior is nature and how much is nurture. Trollocs are basically beasts, and imo not really evil per se. Fades on the other hand, are very close to humans. I really wonder how a fade child would turn out
