If we're going to talk about odd couples than I think someone should mention Mat and Tylin.
I know that they were a casual couple but they still have the strangest relationship!

Androl and Pevara are odd; Logain and Gabrelle are a strange couple.

I MEAN WTF!?!! Is BS trying to give most of the characters a happily ever after kinda love relationship?? I mean some were given from the beginning.. But Thom and Moiraine?? I was so rather thinking it might be that he was somehow related to her or something.. but not that he loved her!!!

I am scarred...

To be honest I was very very displeased with Thom/Moraine storyline. Even after a Reread It just didn't make any sense whatsoever. All of Sudden they were just madly in love?
That was horrible transition and flimsy as heck.

The foreshadowing to Moiraine and Thom started in book 1. Some people are saying that Min told Moiraine about marrying Thom in Baerlon. And there were minor hints of Moiraine liking Thom's personality right from Taren Ferry during their escape from the Two Rivers. Moiraine also assures Rand and Mat that he is alive after they meet in Caemlyn. She veiled the assurance; but it had more to do with the simple "no body found" logic she presented. Book 4 gave the strongest indication in their strange exchange before she shipped him off to look after Elayne in Tanchico.

They weren't glaring hints; but the foreshadowing and indications were there, in my opinion.

I didn't see the Thom/Moraine foreshadowing on my first several reads of the series. I can see the subtle hints now, so I can't say that the relationship came out of the blue, but those hints were VERY subtle. And I really don't buy into the relationship either. I'm definitely not a fan. :\

Yea. If there was indeed foreshadowing it didn't work well for me. The relationship literally sprang out of nowhere and Felt Forced. That's just me though! But If Thom haz the Sam Elliot Mustaches...Maybe.....:waggle

One of my rereads concentrated about relationships and romances. Rand and the ladies, Perrin and Faile, Mat and Tuon, Thom and Moiraine, etc... Knowing that these couples would end up together, I read the books to see where they started and how they developed.

The difference between Thom and Moiraine and the others is that they were not "roaring 20's" love and relationships. Both were in their 40's and 50's; and were in previous relationships. Their attraction and fate was low-key, less open passion than the others. Moiraine's Cairhienin reserve and Aes Sedai discipline kept her rational and dedicated to her greater battle for Rand. But as early as book 4, she was telling people that she knew who she was going to marry. That didn't stop her from shipping her future husband to Tanchico to get him out of her way though :)

I understand what your saying :)

I just don't buy that crap in the book! LOLOLOL

It just felt very contrived. But its all good. It didn't ruin the books for me. Seems very strange to me that there wasnt more attention given to Thom/Moraine courtship.
He spent WAYYYY to long on the Siuan /Bryne courtship. I was getting of tired of watching them play their little games...

I think that Enery for Siuan/Bryne Would have been better Spent on Thom/Moraine...

True; Thom-Moiraine was more subtle, less likely to be noticed. Mat's reaction to their proposal after Moiraine's rescue was classic. He just went nuts and asked, "when did I miss this?!" or something like that. And we also know that Thom didn't stop himself from other relationships even after reading Moiraine's letter and knowing she was alive. He was sleeping with the Lady Riselle in Ebou Dar up to the time she decided to marry the Seanchan banner-general Yamada (if I remember correctly).

Well, when you think about the fact that Moiraine grew up in the royal palace in Cairhien, so she was raised to be reserved, and then later joined the White Tower, both places where the Great Game can carry dire consequences, then spent her life guarding a massive, dangerous, secret from all but two people for twenty years, you can understand why she might be hesitant about speaking plainly or being obvious about anything.

Thom dealt with the same kind of environment. He saw Morgase through the civil war/succession in Andor, and taught her how to play the Great Game. He was once able to move freely though all major noble circles. So again, a poker face would be second nature for this man.

If there were clues to pick up, of course they would be subtle, even when alone. Moiraine knew from her own trick with the stone in her hair that there were definite ways to eavesdrop, and they both spent too long hiding or being careful that I doubt that, even now that they are relatively safe, will change.

Very well said :) Moiraine 40+ years and Thom 50+ years are not a roaring 20's romance.

Also I don't Like the Mat and Tuon relationship :)
I know its necessary and he wrote the courtship very well. I just don't see what there really is to like about Tuon. :P
One if my least favorite characters in ANY series LOL
